Throwing a double walled vase is hard. Hand-cramping hard. But I love the final product so much, and there is a grace to the way the lines fit together that I think comes from the fact that it is all made from one lump of clay, thrown on the wheel in a single session.

You know that 1929 Rene Magritte painting of a pipe, called This is Not a Pipe? I think of these little clay huts in the same way. Ashtray? Incense burner? Tiny house for your kid’s Lego people? You decide.

Little painted planter, inspired by the concrete MCM screens that pepper Los Angeles. No hole, so perfect for succulents, but not plants that need more drainage.

This one was hard to photograph against the white background, but I love how the colors turned out. The column of azure-green within the milky-white outer wall makes me think of flying through streaks of clouds above a deep ocean of blue.

This small cup became a wooden-wicked candle, though I like to imagine that once the candle has burned down, it will become home to a tiny succulent, like the one in the photo. I love pots with double lives.

Los Angeles is rimmed by mountains, which on a clear day provide a welcome distraction when stuck in traffic. The design on these cups was inspired by that vista of barren but beautiful outerlands.
